When I first started off in ministry, Iwas completely alone. I was ayoung pastor living in a small townwhere I didn’t know anyone, theother pastors nearby weren’tinterested in having a relationshipbeyond professional manner, andall my friends who had been anencouragement to me were livingacross the country. I was alone.
In February of 2020, God connected me with a pastor who was looking for a small group community to be a part of. We met a few times and asked God if there were any others who needed a small group community. Eventually we connected with another pastor and began to meet in August of 2020.
This group was particularly meaningful for many reasons. For one, it gave me some friends who I could share openly with about my struggles in ministry. More importantly, it gave each of us people who were regularly praying for us and encouraging us in our walk with Jesus.
We all need people like this. We need to be connected to others who will encourage us as we follow Jesus. Whether we meet in homes, coffee shops, parks, or even online, we need to be in small group community with other believers, just like the picture of the church we see in the Book of Acts.
At New Room, we value being a connected church. The primary way we live out this value is through our Connect Groups. These groups are an opportunity for us to gather to study Scripture, pray together, and receive encouragement in our walk with Jesus.
